«Ո՞վ էր Սերոբը, Աղբյուր մականված սողորդցի այդ հանրածանոթ գյուղացին, որի առջև սասանում են երկու ամբողջ գավառներ, որի անունով թնդում են Բաղեշի և Խլաթի լեռներն ու ձորերը…»

Հայոց հինավուրց Տարոնո աշխարհի Ախլաթ (Խլաթ) գավառի Սողորդ գյուղի համբավավոր, հարուստ Խչեի տոհմից էր Սերոբը (Սերոբ Վարդանյան), ծնված 1864 թ.։ Սերոբը Վարդանյանների գերդաստանի չորս որդիներից կրտսերն էր։ Մանուկ հասակից սիրում էր շրջել հայրենի Նեմրութի լանջերին, ապրել սարերի ու լեռների շնորհած ազատությամբ։ Բնատուր որսորդ էր. մի զարմանալի հատկություն՝ բնորոշ մեծ հայդուկներին։ Որսորդության մեծ սիրահար էին Նիկոլ Դումանը, Գևորգ Չաուշն ու Սեբաստացի Մուրադը։
Տասնութ տարեկանում ավագ եղբայրը՝ գյուղի ռես Մխեն Սերոբին նվիրում է հրացան և դաշույն, և նա ամբողջությամբ նվիրվում է որսորդության, ամեն օր սարերից վերադառնում հարուստ որսով։ Continue reading

US Foresees Rush in Soviet Emigres

MOSCOW, July 12— American diplomats here are bracing for an explosive increase in Soviet emigration to the United States under a law now being drafted that would lift long-standing restrictions on who can leave the country.
Western diplomats said the new law could increase last year’s flood of emigres to the United States manyfold, and prompt a wrenching re-examination of America’s open-door policy toward Soviet immigration.

Soviet Drama: 3 Generals Held by Crowd

MOSCOW, Sept. 7— Three senior generals of the Soviet internal security forces were held hostage by a crowd of Azerbaijanis for five hours last week in the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, officials disclosed today.
The generals, including the commander of all domestic troops for the Soviet Ministry of Internal Affairs, were released in exchange for a promise to transfer two Azerbaijanis accused of being snipers to an Azerbaijani prison, according to an official reached by telephone today in Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Sakharov Took up Enclave’s Status

MOSCOW, Jan. 9— Andrei D. Sakharov, the physicist and rights advocate, explored the possibility of direct rule from Moscow of an ethnic Armenian region in Azerbaijan when he visited the territory last month, according to an Armenian journalist who accompanied him there.

Soviet Military Transport Plane Crashes Into Caspian, Killing 57

MOSCOW, Oct. 19— A Soviet military transport plane carrying paratroopers to peacekeeping duty in the Caucasus region caught fire and crashed into the Caspian Sea on Wednesday night, killing all 57 people on board, according to reports by the official press agency, Tass, and the Government newspaper, Izvestia.

BADARA, U.S.S.R., Aug. 29— From the windows of her living room, Galya Israelyan can look down over the rooftops of this Armenian village, out to the green and gold mountains and the clearing where a few days ago her husband, Ruben, was shot dead.
He was 32 years old and the father of five, including a newborn daughter, when he became a casualty in the Soviet Union’s fiercest and most intractable nationalist feud in recent years.

Soviet Union With Georgia on His Mind

Shortly after noon last Thursday, crockery rattled as a quake hit Tbilisi, the capital of the Soviet Republic of Georgia. It was a minor tremor — especially when compared with the political convulsion that shook the city four days earlier. Then, at a rally that stretched into the early-morning hours of Sunday, tens of thousands of Georgians listened to a megaphone of speakers demand greater freedom from Moscow. Many protesters carried the black-white-and-claret flag that waved during Georgia’s most recent period of independence, from 1918 to 1921. Others hoisted signs that read DOWN WITH THE DECAYING SOVIET EMPIRE.

Հիմնվելով ազգերի ինքնորոշման համամարդկային սկզբունքների վրա և արձագանքելով հայ ժողովրդի՝ բռնի ուժով բաժանված երկու հատվածների վերամիավորման օրինական ձգտմանը, Հայկական ԽՍՀ Գերագույն խորհուրդը եւ Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի Ազգային խորհուրդը որոշում են.
1. Հայկական ԽՍՀ Գերագույն խորհուրդը ճանաչում է Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի Ինքնավար Մարզի ինքնորոշման փաստը՝ հաստատված ԼՂՒՄ-ի մարզային խորհրդի 1988 թվականի փետրվարի 20-ի և հուլիսի 12-ի նստաշրջանների, ինչպես նաև մարզի բնակչության լիազոր-ներկայացուցիների 1989 թվականի օգոստոսի 16-ի համագումարի և Ազգային խորհրդի հոկտեմբերի 19-ի նիստի որոշումներում։
